“Mathematics comes alive when children explore, question, and discover.” Our Grade 2 learners enjoyed an enriching mathematical journey through interactive, hands-on activities that transformed abstract ideas into meaningful experiences. While learning about mass, students first estimated the weight of various classroom objects and then verified their guesses using a weighing scale.
Comparing estimates with actual measurements encouraged curiosity, discussion, and real-life connections. Learners also explored the concept of chance through the lively Crocodile Coin Game, where repeated coin tosses helped them observe how outcomes change each time, building an understanding that results can vary. This activity nurtured critical thinking and reflected the habit of Sharpen the Saw through practice and reflection. Further, by randomly selecting numbered chits and adding them to make 10, students identified possible and impossible combinations. Learning by doing made mathematics joyful, engaging, and deeply meaningful.
