*Science is fun, and science is curiosity in action!*
Our Grade 2 students recently explored the fascinating world of mixtures through a hands-on filtration activity. They began by mixing coffee powder with water, creating a muddy solution. Some coffee granules didn’t dissolve, making it the perfect chance to try filtration – a simple method used to separate solids from liquids.
Using a funnel lined with filter paper, they carefully poured the mixture in. The filter paper, with its tiny holes, allowed the liquid to pass through while trapping the solid coffee bits. The clear liquid that came out was called the filtrate, and the leftover coffee on the paper was the residue.
This experiment helped students understand how filtration works in real life – like when we make clear coffee or purify water. It was a fun and engaging way to spark their curiosity and show that science is all around us!
