Curiosity is the spark that makes learning meaningful.
Our Grade 2 students turned into young scientists during Discovery Hour as they explored the fascinating concept of density through a vibrant hands-on experiment. Using a clear glass, students carefully poured honey, detergent, water, oil, and brightly coloured liquid medicine to create a beautiful liquid density tower. To their delight, the liquids did not mix but formed distinct layers, with thick honey settling at the bottom and lighter liquids floating above.
The excitement grew when a safety pin was gently dropped into the glass and was seen sinking through the layers until it reached the denser liquid—perfectly demonstrating how density affects sinking and floating. This engaging activity encouraged students to observe closely, ask thoughtful questions, and make predictions. Discovery Hour transformed a key science concept into a joyful, memorable experience, nurturing curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for learning in our young explorers.
