“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”
Learning came alive during our Discovery Hour, where students explored science through experiential learning and hands-on discovery. The classroom turned into a mini science lab as curiosity led the way and concepts unfolded through observation and excitement.
The Tornado in a Jar activity mesmerized young minds as swirling water formed a funnel-like vortex inside a clear jar. With a drop of dish soap, a circular motion, and a sparkle of glitter or colour, students observed how rotational motion and centripetal force work together. This simple yet powerful visual helped them understand how tornadoes form in nature, making weather science engaging and memorable. Adding to the wonder was the Dancing Raisins Experiment, where a fizzy drink became a stage for science in motion. Raisins dipped, floated, and danced as carbon dioxide bubbles clung to them, lifting them upward before gently dropping them back down. Through this playful experiment, students discovered concepts like buoyancy, gases in liquids, and motion in fluids.
Discovery Hour truly celebrated learning by doing, sparking curiosity, encouraging questions, and turning scientific concepts into joyful experiences that students could see, feel, and understand.
